Corel MotionStudio 3D offers an all-encompassing 3D motion, title, and motion graphics program that makes it easy for users to create thrilling 3D visually appealing effects for use in video productions. You can also create realistic motion blur to moving objects as well as create as well as use 3D models. But I would be (almost) willing to bet that the Pinnacle hardware capture devices still will not work with VS but only with Pinnacle Studio, with which they were sold. The most advanced particle systems include smoke, fire, bubbles, and many more. While I don't know this for a fact, the ultimate example of how silly this all is is that Corel bought Pinnacle some time ago. Other versions of VS would not capture from that same hardware - and again it was largely due to proprietary reasons on the hardware manufacturers' part. Some even in the past have used older versions of VS, but the important thing with those is that the hardware manufacturers would often tweak VS once they got their hands on the program, only to work with their hardware. And I can only repeat, most of them come with their own capture software. That leaves other hardware capture devices. The VS Capture function is largely irrelevant to them because you simply transfer the video from the hard disk/flash card/mini DVD to your computer using Windows file transfer. The other types of camcorders these days, whether standard or high definition, use either hard disk drives, flash card drives or even mini DVD drives. I know because they are the main type of camcorder I use. VS captures well from DV and HDV camcorders. In effect, Capture in VS is only really relevant these days in two main situations: DV/HDV camcorders and capture hardware devices. But the point was that they simply refused to share any of the "secrets" of their hardware or software with other software (or for that matter hardware) manufacturers like Corel for proprietary reasons. Some, like Pinnacle, used to manufacture capture devices which would work only with their software. Although Corel techs and execs very seldom visit this forum, they are well aware of the situation with capture devices, as I am sure, are other manufacturers of NLE video editing software. I bet if Corel saw these posting they would know exactly what is going on and suggest a fix. Then do the editing in VS - which after all, is its principal function. More often than not, that device will only work, or only work well, with the software with which it came. In other words, as Brian has already suggested, don't get hung up that VS can't do a capture with a specific device. But I prefer to use HDVSplit for HDV or WinDV for that - both of them freeware programs which give me more flexibility. I know, for instance, that VS can happily capture DV or HDV video (which I mostly use). And capturing is one of the more basic ones you have less need to worry about than others. So don't get hung up about what you can or can't do in VS. It's just that the more you advance in video editing, the more you will see that other programs can add something to the basic editing. That is not to say that I value VS any the less for editing - indeed it can do just about everything I need. But with it, I use Sonic Fire Pro for the music background, Bluff Titler or Xara 3D or Corel Motion Studio 3D for titles, Audacity (freeware) for some audio editing, plus some other programs from time to time for specialised work. Personally, for example, I use VS for almost all of my video editing. Even after a short time with VS, you - like many of us here - will find that other programs become an integral and valued part of the whole video editing process. I would like to do all my video work in videoStudio X7.Īs Brian has already implied, there is no need for that feeling that everything has to be done in the one program.
